Dinosaurs and the Flintstones

So I went to the Cabazon Dinosaur place. Did not actually go in the museum as I could not bring myself to give them even the $5. I went in the gift shop, and yes it is a young earth creationist view. Dinos and people lived together. It was sad.

The problem with places like this is they tend to have a lot of stuff that sounds scientific. It sounds plausible to people who have never looked at any other information. Creationists not only sound plausible on the positive aspects of their craziness but they try to discredit evolution for the majority of it (as thats really the only thing they can do, and they do it badly). For example, they bring up Piltdown Man (among others) and by saying it was a hoax (which is known by evolutionists as well) that it somehow validates that scientists lose.

Another one they had pictures of, which I had seen in the past was a "fossilized" boot. Obviously if its a boot, it didn't take millions of years to make. Interestingly, I can't find a whole lot of info about this boot other than from creation websites. One thing I did find was another picture of a "fossilized" hat that was on answersingenesis.org (lame creationist site, a better site that explains a lot of things is Talk Origins ). Oddly the hat was not a fossil but was calcified, which is a process that can happen much quicker.

Thats basically how they work. Lots of lies, many half truths, some truths that they twist that somehow thinks it makes the case (such as Piltdown man). I was going to take pictures, but there wasn't much room and I didn't feel like getting into arguments. 99% of it is just stuff they ripped off of the Answersingenesis.org website.

The part that bothers me is that some polls show that only half of the United States accept evolution and the other half does not (the majority of which think that the Earth is less than 6000 years old). An interesting graph that shows some of this scares me. We are only above Turkey? We are falling a bit behind. And I can only presume that if Palin and McCain get elected, that we will slowly sink below Turkey.

And I'm sorry but if you think the Flintstones is a documentary then you might just be stupid.

Entertaining and scary

I have seen this picture before but I thought it was funny.

Im scared.  Obama needs to win, otherwise I think we are doomed.  Mccain, and especially Palin (who is batshit crazy) scare me.  Too crazy.  Obama wants to bring shit together, Palin and Mccain want to divide.  What happened to the idea that republicans wanted smaller government.  Taking away civil rights, to me, does not seem smaller.  The idea that if Mccain or Palin get in that they will overturn Roe V Wade and have no problems with creationism and abstinence only taught in schools (look how well it worked for her daughter) scare me.  And im done with school, know that abstinence only is bull and personally never plan on getting an abortion (a bit hard, no womb or girl parts being the majority of the reason).  Even I, a guy, think that women should have the choice.  And this shit where people who are pro-choice are really pro-abortion, is nonsense.  I wish people would stop lying.  Thats like saying that I'm anti religious so that really means I am a nazi.  HUGE stretch, and a blatant lie, yet people who don't think believe it.

It was recently pointed out that Palin said about her family that her daughter made the right choice about keeping the baby.  First of all, I doubt it was really a choice in the sense that mommy Palin would probably disown her (if she really believes what she says).  But even putting that aside, she had the choice.  Yet Palin (and those in her camp) want to remove the choice that she seems glad that her daugther made the right one of.  Isn't that a bit odd?

Now I will fully admit, I did not watch the Palin or McCain speeches.  Mainly because I see them as commercials on why to vote for them, and theres nothing they could say save for changing everything they stand for which is not going to happen.  I did watch Obama's speech as I was curious on how good it will be, and personally I thought it was great.  I did watch the faith forum thing that Rick Warren and his church did (and at least he gave a good go at being neutral so Icommend him for that, even though we all know that hes voting McCain).  I plan on watching the debates, mainly to see how they go (as again, short of McCain flipping on everything he has said, and Palin going away (or flipping, but I don't think shes capable of that, course McCain isn't either).  I encourage everyone to watch the debates, and vote.  Preferably for Obama, but the important part is vote.

Btw, did I mention, VOTE!

On a side note, a video from the Mythbusters guys (yes, im a large fan of them.)  Watch the video, then go and read the comments (they explain how they did it.)  Something to think about.
